Jonathan Card, AIA, LEED AP - Principal

Following his degree at Texas Tech University and inspired by the rich urban character of San Antonio, Jonathan joined Lake|Flato Architects in 1998. His work on custom homes, retreats, and commercial buildings combined with his passion for the urban core in projects like the Pearl Brewery Master Plan, Main Plaza Renovation, and various mixed-use projects around the state.

Jonathan founded Urbanist Design in 2008 after 10 years with Lake|Flato. His commitment to San Antonio reflects in their concentration of projects in San Antonio’s resurgent central neighborhoods. Jonathan is a co-founder of South Texas Jazz, an active member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, and has 4 kiddos with his wife Heather. They are in the process of building a home for their family in Tobin Hill, just blocks from Urbanist’s studio at Pearl. Jonathan has lived in Houston, Midland, Fort Stockton, Odessa, Waco, Lubbock, and San Antonio, Texas. Yee Haw.

He later joined Douglas Architects, contributing to the Hilton Palacio del Rio, VIA Westside Transit Center, and other urban infill projects.

Marc rejoined Jonathan at Urbanist Design in 2013. He spends his free time photographing, renovating his historic home, and volunteering with organizations focused on growth in central San Antonio. His running partner/dog Rusty demands the rest of his time.
